Keiki Coding for ages 7-12
The Keiki Coding program is a unique and exciting way of teaching students coding by using specialty themed and place based curriculum. Each progressive unit of Keiki Coding will teach kids core coding, game logic, proficiency and computer skills using the Scratch online program. Keiki Coding Jr for ages 5-7 Introducing Keiki Coding Jr., where young minds embark on an exciting journey into the world of coding! Our specialized curriculum is designed to engage and inspire children through age-appropriate themes and interactive activities. Each session of Keiki Coding Jr. introduces fundamental coding concepts, game logic, and computer skills using the intuitive Scratch online platform. It’s more than just learning – it’s exploring creativity and building confidence in a supportive environment tailored for our youngest tech enthusiasts. Place Based Program Our place based 10 volume progressive program is designed with original art and animation to spark the imagination, challenges problem solving skills and encourage creativity. Keiki Coding Volume 1 focus on the adventures of Māui the Demigod and is perfect starting place for kids of all ages. We start with Volume 1 and take students on a journey from the excitement of programing their first code of changing the color of a Kalo to crafting a game with multiple levels based on the story of how Māui finds fire. The whole thing is then rounded out with showing students how to create their own game by using a Game Design Document. |
Summer Keiki Coding Programs During Summer we create special programs to enhance our place based school year program with new and exciting themed content. For Summer 2022 we are launching Keiki Coding: Sassy Sassy Squirrels Wild Wild World of Sportz which combines the best of of our school year coding program with fun sport themed coding that is nuts! How Does it work? By combining our specially created Game Assets with the power of the Scratch programing program designed by the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab, keiki will learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively, all while creating Hawai’i place based video games. Our progressive modules take students on a journey of talk story sessions with Professional Animators, Artists, Cultural Practitioners, and Game Designers which helps them to not only understand more of the world around them, but also teaches them the skills and logic of becoming a coder! |
What we're Teaching
- Learn how to create characters, animations, sounds and special effects using intuitive, kid-friendly Scratch 3.0 technology.
- Develop mini-stories and build the skills to design a video game that they can play with friends, using our special place-based curriculum
- Experiment and troubleshoot on their programming project, developing important problem solving, logic and computational skills.
- Our special online program will teach keiki how to be confidant in coding all while learning about the world around them!
